Hearing Aids Are Worth Paying For

January is typically a quiet time of year. Many people have maxed out over Christmas and are taking it easy. Then Chinese New Year comes along and there is more merriment. Festivities can go on, and on, but if you, or your loved ones, have noticed that you are losing your hearing over the festive period then you must get your hearing checked as soon as possible. It’s the best gift that you can give yourself, or your loved ones, in the New Year.

Some people aren’t interested in cars, others love them. When you are younger you may remember getting your first car, second hand. Freedom and autonomy to drive around easily and quickly, help your friends out, going out on a date, or even show off. But not everyone starts off with an expensive new car. Trading up is possible if you want, we all have different aspirations. It’s the same with hearing aids. If you, or your loved ones, are losing your hearing then fitting and wearing a hearing aid will restore your hearing and your quality of life, a bit like having a car, or not. So what kind of hearing aid, or car, should you start off with? The easiest way to decide is to ask a good, professional audiologist, like Clarisound to help you choose. Hearing aids range from basic to premium category, for cars it’s a Mini or a Rolls Royce. It depends on your budget and your preferences. There are lots of cars available on the market, it’s the same for hearing aids.

Compare Basic and Premium Category Hearing Aids

A study just published in the European Archives of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology compared the benefits of basic and premium hearing aids. Hearing aid users, with hearing loss ranging from mild to moderately severe, were given a questionnaire divided into subscales which included; speech intelligibility in quiet and in noise, ease of communication, efficiency of noise reduction, localisation, quality of music perception and cost effectiveness. Then the effect of daily usage of hearing aids on these subscales was assessed by researchers. The results found that ease of communication was rated better by premium hearing aid users, whereas cost effectiveness was rated to be better by basic users. Otherwise, there was no significant difference observed between performances of basic versus premium hearing aids. Conclusions to be drawn show premium hearing aids facilitated better ease of communication only and basic hearing aids remain cost effective.
